About Ceres Greenhouse Solutions

Designing for a better future

Ceres was founded in 2011 with the goal of designing the most energy efficient greenhouse design solutions and has since  become an international leader in greenhouse design, supporting complex, large-scale commercial projects across global markets. What began as a focus on sustainable systems has expanded into a holistic approach—integrating technology, data, and strategic partnerships to deliver complete solutions tailored to each client.

We believe effective growing environments are systems, not standalone facilities. By combining appropriate technologies, natural solutions and focused data we create systems that work for growers anywhere in the world, whatever crops are being grown, researched or tested. Our team is intentionally nimble and highly collaborative, supporting clients with unique goals through customized, end-to-end solutions.

Why We Started

Ceres was founded on the belief that greenhouses could do more than extend the growing season, they could strengthen the connection between people and plants.

Our initial differentiator was passive solar greenhouse design. By harnessing sunlight, thermal mass, insulation, and climate-responsive engineering, we created growing environments that worked with natural systems while reducing energy consumption. From that foundation grew our broader expertise in energy-efficient greenhouse design and environmental control.

Whether that means producing fresh food closer to where it is consumed, creating year-round growing environments for communities and schools, or designing glasshouse and biophilic spaces that enhance wellbeing and connect people with nature, we believe thoughtfully designed plant environments can improve quality of life.

Today, that mission continues to guide everything we do. We design greenhouse and glasshouse systems that make food more accessible, reduce the distance from farm to plate, support scientific research and innovation, strengthen local resilience, and create inspiring environments where people and plants can thrive together.

What Makes Ceres Different?

Unlike traditional greenhouse manufacturers, we are not limited to a single structure, supplier, or product line.

Our approach starts with the client. Every project begins by understanding your goals, site conditions, climate, budget, crop requirements, and operational needs. From there, we develop a customized solution using the best technologies, equipment, and suppliers available worldwide.

This plant-first, performance-driven approach allows us to design greenhouse and glasshouse systems that deliver:

  • Greater energy efficiency
  • Improved environmental control
  • Reduced operating costs
  • Higher crop quality and yields
  • Long-term scalability

Whether you’re growing leafy greens, flowers, specialty crops, or conducting research, our goal is to create an environment where plants can thrive and businesses can succeed.

Our Expertise

One of our primary commitments is bringing efficient greenhouse design to schools and non-profits that aim to help students and others both learn about greenhouses and Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) solutions, as well as provide food for their fellow students or communities.

Non-Profits and Community Greenhouses

Proprietary Technology and Data

We use our own technologies to optimize renewable energy solutions. It is our goal as an efficient greenhouse design company to leverage appropriate technologies in order to increase our greenhouse yields, our clients profits, and keep energy costs at a minimum.

Our Impact

Over the past decade, Ceres has helped clients create productive growing environments in diverse climates around the world.

Our projects range from educational greenhouses and community food systems to sophisticated commercial production facilities designed for year-round cultivation.

Each project represents a shared goal: producing more food, more efficiently, with fewer resources.

Looking Ahead

The future depends on creating stronger connections between people, plants, and the environments we share.

As communities seek greater food security, resource efficiency, climate resilience, and opportunities to reconnect with nature, thoughtfully designed greenhouse and glasshouse environments will play an increasingly important role. From commercial food production and agricultural research to biophilic architecture, and education, these environments have the power to enrich both human and ecological wellbeing.

Ceres is proud to help lead that evolution by designing greenhouse and glasshouse solutions that empower growers, support innovation, strengthen communities, and create places where people and plants can thrive together.

Let’s Build Something That Grows

Whether you’re planning your first greenhouse or expanding an existing operation, we’re here to help you create a growing environment designed for long-term success.

Marc Plinke

Founder/Chief Innovation Officer

Marc is an inventor-innovator who started his career as a chemical and process engineer working for Gore Technologies. When he landed in Boulder, CO, he retrofitted his family’s 1950’s ranch house into a “beyond-net-zero-energy home.” That experience led him into his second career in greenhouse building design. He has spent the past decade applying his engineering mindset and expertise to building better and more energy-efficient greenhouses. After helping build a state-of-the-art commercial greenhouse funded by the Colorado Department of Agriculture, Marc started Ceres with the intention of enabling people to grow their own food sustainably and year-round. Marc’s passion is his family and his belief in leaving the world a better place for his children.
